"Plastic Plants" Artist's Statement

Gallery

What fascinates me about plastic plants is that they do not have to conform to the standards of reality. Colors are more vibrant. The size and shape of each element can be shifted at will. Desirable elements can be mixed and matched. Like the bloom of a poppy, but not the stalk and leaf of the plant? No problem! A plastic poppy can have any type of leaf one desires!

These paintings are my approach to the traditional still life. Rather than strictly copy the subject, I wanted to go deeper and tackle the concept behind the flowers' creation. These plastic plants were created to be better than real, and I wished to continue that theme. I applied my style, used the colors I wanted and tweaked the form to make an even more ideal image of beauty. There's ambition in the artificial. That is the beauty inside of plastic plants.
