Christopher J. Paulsen was born in Fairfax, Virginia. Growing up in the D.C. area, he was able to take advantage of the great museums and educational programs available in order to immerse himself in the art world from an early age. Active in the arts throughout his life, Paulsen earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Printmaking from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV and is currently continuing his studies at Shepherd through graduate courses. While actively showing artwork in regional exhibitions, Paulsen has earned various honors. He has been awarded a show based on a proposal written for a school-sponsored honors competition. His work was selected for the Shepherd University juried competition on two occasions, including an award for "Best Series" in 2002. Recently, Paulsen became the first artist selected for the permanent collection of the Shepherd University Student Center.
